Among the ways and directions of improvement of the evaluation process of IT investment, there is one that focuses on the applicability of methods used in other areas of science. This article is part of this trend by selecting classes of IT projects, that may be evaluated using real options method. The option method, originally developed for pricing of financial instruments (as financial options), has been adapted to capture value of capital investment, including those on the field of information technology. The paper examines the major classification schemes of information systems based on economic criterion. Categories of IT projects separated in those schemas are then juxtaposed with the requirements of the options method. As a result a list of classes of IT projects that can be evaluated using real options method with particularly good effect is obtained. The results of research were compared with the conclusions formulated in the literature.
