APPLICATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIME REDUCTION

Summary

For many years, did not occur in criminology major changes. Collected at the crime scene traces had to be manually analyze. Matching tracks data collected in paper form was laborious. The development of information technology has enabled arrival of new opportunities, both for disclosure of traces of the crime as well as their later processing.
Just like other fields of science, criminology also introduces a new solution with greater or lesser success. Application of database technologies enabled the collection of information on criminals and crimes.
Application of database technologies facilitate the identification of criminals and traces left by them. Development of the Internet technology, and together with it data networks has enabled the large-scale exchange of information. This resulted cooperation between countries in the fight crime on a large scale.
With the changes that have taken place in Europe at the end of the twentieth century, Poland and other countries of the former Eastern bloc could take an active part in these changes.
At the time of building basis of the systems there were many problems. One of them was data consistency. Data collected by the services in different countries are not compatible with each other. For effective data processing was to establish a uniform data format. This uniform data format would allow comparison of the collected data. Information systems are used in criminology are subject to continuous development. This development must therefore have an impact on crime reducing.
