THE DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION SOCIETY WITHIN THE AREA OF EASTERN POLAND

Summary

The concept of „information society” was introduced for the first time in 1963 by the Japanese ethnologist Tadao Utmesao and then popularized by another Japanese Kenichi Koyama. It denotes the society communicating via the Internet – this is the main feature of this society. At present an access to information is the most important value and more and more common. Thanks to the website it is possible to work, get in touch with friends, find information or to do shopping without leaving home.
Information society is innovative one as well. Therefore, the development of scientific research and transfer of modern technologies to enterprises are significantly emphasized. European Union noticed this giving considerable amounts for the development of innovative technologies and building information society.
In Poland we may observe disproportion in the development of information society in various parts of the country. Some of them achieved a substantial level of development of the information society. Others, among which 5 voivodeships of Eastern Poland, are delayed within this field. Significant funds are directed there in order to support processes of developing information society. A special Operational Programme – OP Development of Eastern Poland 2007–2013 and regional operational programmes which give institutional and financial tool to build information society within this area.
