OVERVIEW OF CURRENT INFORMATION SYSTEM CLASSIFICATIONS
Summary
The article emphasizes the diversity of current information system classifications. Seven classification schemas are presented and discussed. Two of them are proposed by S. Alter. The first identifies information system categories related to specific functional areas of business while the second information system categories that apply in any functional area of business. Next five schemas (by E. Turban and others) classify information systems by organizational structure, by functional area, by support provided, by levels of management and finally by system architecture.
