Streszczenie
Polska, będąc członkiem Unii Europejskiej, jest krajem realizującym cele dotyczące poprawy konkurencyjności tego ugrupowania. Jednym z dwunastu fi larów konkurencyjności gospodarek jest infrastruktura, którą WEF ocenia jako jeden z podstawowych warunków zapewniających możliwości rozwoju gospodarczego i wzrostu poziomu życia. Niedorozwój infrastruktury transportowej w Polsce, szczególnie kolejowej, staje się obecnie barierą nie tylko na drodze dalszego rozwoju polskich podmiotów, regionów i naszej gospodarki, ale także całej UE. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie znaczenia kolejowej infrastruktury transportowej jako elementu określającego konkurencyjność i możliwości rozwojowe gospodarki oraz analiza obecnego stanu transportu kolejowego w Polsce ze wskazaniem możliwości jego zmian, które według rządowych programów mają nastąpić w przyszłości.

CONDITION OF RAIL TRANSPORT IN THE POLISH ECONOMY
Summary
As a member of the European Union, Poland is one of the countries, which realize the objectives for improving the competitiveness of this group. One of the twelve pillars of competitiveness of economies is the infrastructure, which is assessed by the WEF as one of the basic conditions ensuring opportunities for economic development and growth of living standards. Underdevelopment of Polish transport infrastructure, particularly rail, is now becoming a barrier not only for the further development of Polish companies, regions, and our economy, but also for the whole EU. The aim of this paper is to show the importance of rail transport infrastructure as a part which determines the competitiveness and opportunities of economic development, as well as analysis of the current state of rail transport in Poland, with an indication of its possible changes, which, according to government programs, are to take place in the future.
