IMPACT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY
Summary

This article presents the importance of local government as one of the main initiators of the process of sustainable development of community. To achieve the objective of the article the author has made analysis of the literature, data of the Local Data Bank of Central Statistical Office and the part of a wider research covering the effects of the use of EU funds for sustainable development of rural areas in the region.

The analysis have showed that the activity of local government can contribute significantly to the growth of social welfare of the local government units. By implementing own and ordered tasks local governments decide to what extent the various spheres of human life will be made, such as: social, environmental and economic development, and whether the development of local community will be integrated and sustainable.
