TERMS OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT IN THE LIGHT OF EU DOCUMENTS
Summary

Development of transport, which took place in the twentieth century significantly contributed to extension of the use of exhaustible natural resources, environmental degradation, and thus to reduction of the welfare of present and future generations. In program Europe 2020, valid in the EU, one of the main priorities is a sustainable development, which means supporting more resource-efficient, greener and more competitive economy. That is also the need to incorporate this priority under all types of policies at the level of this grouping, as well as national levels. This also applies to EU transport policy.

The purpose of this paper is to present the concept of transport development described in the documents of the European Union, which in the area of transport policy for many years focused more than ever on solutions, which are environmental-friendly and relevant to the concept of sustainable development.

The first part of the article presents the concept of sustainable development arising from the existing EU policies. The second part presents the objectives of EU transport policy for sustainable development of European transport.
